Private Dance Lessons in Raleigh

Private lessons are beneficial for dancers who want to improve at their own pace or work on specific goals. Advantages include:

  • Personalized attention. Get real-time, constructive feedback, helping you correct mistakes and refine your technique immediately, rather than waiting for group class feedback. If you need more time on a particular move or concept, you can take it, which often leads to faster improvement.
  • Judgment Free Environment. Enjoy having the space to work through challenges without worrying about others’ judgment allowing you to push yourself harder and tackle more advanced material when you’re ready. Without the pressure of performing in front of others, you can take risks and experiment with new movements or styles, which accelerates personal growth.
  • Flexible Schedules. Going private is more flexible than group classes. You can schedule lessons at times that work best for you, helping you fit dance into a busy schedule.

Our goal is to improve technique, flexibility, turns, jumps, or flexibility.  Private lessons allow you to zero in on what matters most to you.

Recovering from an injury? Private lessons can be designed to help you rebuild strength and flexibility gradually. This one-on-one focus means you can safely progress at a pace that works for you.

Overall, private lessons give you access to a professional caring teacher. Whether you’re a beginner or an advanced dancer, personalized attention can make a huge difference.

Choreography

Choreography for musical theatre productions requires a thoughtful balance of technique, storytelling, and engaging choreography. I have choreographed over 25 productions and over 1000 dances! Styles range from Musical Theatre genres to jazz, contemporary, ballet, and tap.

Musical theatre productions often have a specific period, era, or stylized theme. The musical genre of the production and style of music is reflected in the movement quality and energy of the choreography.

I love big group numbers but can also create choreography for solos, duets, trios, and small groups.

Choreographing for Private Lessons:

  1. Personalize the Routine:In private lessons, you have the opportunity to tailor the choreography to the student’s strengths and weaknesses, taking into account their ability, learning style, and any goals they may have. Whether they’re focusing on a specific technique or trying to develop a certain skill, I ensure that the choreography allows for showcasing a performer’s personality.
  2. Focus on Technique:

Private lessons provide a great environment to hone in on technical details. The pressure of performing in front of a group is removed. One-on-one lessons give the teacher the ability to be honest and work on specific goals with the dancer. Time is dedicated to reaching goals and helping build confidence.

Audition Prep/Prescreen Prep

With the guidance of a professional dance teacher and choreographer, audition prep and prescreen prep for college dance programs was a breeze.

As your coach, I am here to help you feel more confident and ready to film the multitude of prescreens that are required for top-tier musical theatre or dance conservatories/universities. Colleges often provide specific guidelines for prescreen auditions, including what styles of dance to perform, the duration of the video, and how they want the video submitted.

We will design choreography that showcases your strengths and help in areas where you may need improvement. Colleges are looking for dancers who can convey emotion and tell a story through movement. We can practice the choreography and help you gain confidence in performing with energy, expression, and intention. A professional choreographer can help you balance artistic expression with technical skills.

Colleges prefer clean, uncluttered spaces, with a simple background that doesn’t distract from your performance. A dance studio is ideal for filming and will make your submission stand out.
To further stand out, a video submission needs: adequate lighting, good camera angles, and high-quality audio. It’s also helpful to rehearse in the space where you’ll be recording to get comfortable with it. Colleges want to see who you are as an artist. In addition to technique, they’re looking for personality, creativity, and individuality. Let your unique qualities shine through in the audition. Practice the routines multiple times before recording.

With private lessons, we will choose music, create choreography, and film all in one space!

Let’s get you into that dream school! Prescreen video submissions take time.
